Have you decided it's finally time to take a shot at making your own wine? Many people are doing it as the hobby gets larger and larger. Learning to do it right is the first step in making a wine with a great taste that you can share with others. Even the largest wineries in the world produce a bad bottle every now and then, and they have been doing it a lot longer than you, and probably with better wine making equipment.

This article is not a complete "how to make wine at home", it couldn't be covered in a small article like this. But, we have collected some great wine making tips that should help your overall wine making process.

The first step is also a big safety step. It is extremely important to make sure that any equipment that will come in contact with the wine is sanitized. Making wine requires a standard of cleanliness above normal food preparation. Special cleaning solutions are available to insure your equipment is bacteria free. Any bacteria left behind can contaminate the wine and slow the fermentation process.

The best tip is to get a good recipe and follow it as closely as possible. There are many internet sites with wine making recipes that have been tested and improved over and over.

Getting a high quality hydrometer is also a very important wine making tips. These inexpensive tools measure the progress of the fermentation process. This is probably the most important step in wine making and requires a quality hydrometer. You can also use a hydrometer to measure the amount of alcohol at the beginning and end of the fermentation process.

Keeping the constant correct temperature is also one of the most important wine making tips. The fermenation process of the wine is determined by the storage temperature. If it is to high the wine will ferment to quickly and it the temperature is to low it won't ferment fast enough. Either of these temperature problems will result in a bad tasting wine. The temperature range that you should use for making homemade wine is 70 - 75 degrees.

Another cause of bad tasting wine is to much exposure to air during the wine making process. To much oxygen will cause oxidation of the wine which both discolors and a gives the wine a bad flavor.
